Spacecoin to Launch CTC-0 Satellite, Ushering in Decentralized Internet Era

Spacecoin is excited to announce that on December 21, 2024, it will launch CTC-0, its first satellite. The launch marks the beginning of Spacecoin’s audacious plan to establish the first decentralized space-based internet service provider (ISP) in history that can fulfill the Internet’s original promise of unrestricted, free access for anyone.

Approximately 37% of people on the planet do not have access to the internet. We will Connect the Unconnected and provide direct-to-mobile internet connection to worldwide areas, including developing countries, that do not currently have dependable internet access by implementing universal internet access. As part of the Bandwagon-2 rideshare mission, CTC-0 will launch from the Vanderberg Space Force Base on board SpaceX’s Falcon 9 rocket.

Tae Oh, Founder, Spacecoin stated:

“The Internet is one of the most crucial modern inventions that has revolutionized every aspect of human life – from how we get our information to how we access finance, education, and healthcare. Yet billions remain disconnected from this promise. At Spacecoin, we are committed to change that and this launch is the first step towards universal internet access.”

How Spacecoin is Different

  • Direct-to-Cell Coverage: The initiative will use 5G NTN technology to connect directly to devices, doing away with the need for costly ground infrastructure like cellular towers and fiber-optic connections.
  • Decentralized Network Control: Our Spacechain protocol, which is driven by blockchain technology, will guarantee that the network is not governed by a single entity. As a result, customers will still have complete control over their internet connection, and neither the government nor any telecom company would be able to restrict or shut it down.
  • Affordability: Spacecoin’s operating expenses will be substantially reduced by using blockchain technology and doing away with the requirement for terrestrial infrastructure. In developing nations, we project monthly expenditures of only $1–2 USD per user.
  • Industry Compliance: The 3GPP industry standards will be completely met by Spacecoin’s network, guaranteeing that it will function with all of the newest 5G NTN-enabled mobile devices, including those manufactured by Apple and Samsung.
  • Open-Source Architecture: In order to promote cooperation and creativity in the sector, Spacecoin intends to make our whole technological stack—including our hardware—open source.

Stuart Gardner, CEO, Spacecoin stated:

“Satellite-based internet infrastructure has emerged as the only viable means of delivering universal internet access. It can easily reach remote and underserved regions where ground-based infrastructure falls short. At Spacecoin, we are leveraging Low Earth Orbit satellites and blockchain technology to deliver reliable and affordable internet, especially in emerging markets.”

The first Decentralized Physical Infrastructure Network (DePIN) initiative in the world to use blockchain technology with Low Earth Orbit (LEO) communication satellites is Spacecoin. Moreover, Spacecoin wants to provide high-speed, decentralized internet connectivity to underserved and rural areas of the world via a satellite-based network. Spacecoin will oversee satellite operations for on-chain resource allocation, payments, and governance using Creditcoin’s Layer 1 infrastructure.
